Until Further Notice:Help Warehouse, a program of Lower Columbia CAP, is asking for donations of paper bags. CAP uses 600 bags each month for its USDA Commodities program, a federally funded food supplement program for low-income families and seniors. The commodities are bagged and delivered to 14 distribution sites in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties on the third Tuesday of each month. Paper bags can be dropped off at the CAP building, 1526 Commerce Avenue in Longview, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The Volunteer Group at the Kelso Train Depot is welcoming aboard new volunteers willing to help staff the depot during business hours.

There are three four-hour shifts at the train depot every day of the week.

Anyone 21 years of age and older are welcome to volunteer.

Applications for depot volunteering are available for pick-up at the train depot.

Seven one-act plays from five regional high schools will be presented Saturday at the third annual High School One-Act Play Festival at Stageworks Northwest Theatre, 1433 Commerce Ave., Longview, Wash. Doors open at 9 a.m., and the event is free and open to the public.
The three winning plays will be presented in a showcase at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17-18 at Stageworks. Tickets for the showcase will be $10 at the door. For information, call 360-636-4488.

Community Home Health & Hospice is offering a free, eight-week survivors of suicide loss group in Longview. Class starts Wednesday, January 22, 2020, from 3pm-5pm, at The James Avery Center, 1000 – 12th Ave., Longview, and continues weekly through March 11, 2020.

Community Home Health & Hospice offers small group support sessions focused on the profound grieving process of suicide bereavement. The group is led by experienced, licensed medical social workers. Once started, sessions are closed to allow for a safe emotional setting. Pre-registration is required. Community Home Health & Hospice is offering a free, six-week grief recovery group in Longview titled Walk through Grief. Class starts Tuesday, March 31, 2020, from 1pm-3pm, at the James Avery Grief Center, 1000 12th Ave., Longview, and continues weekly through May 5, 2020.

This grief support group provides the opportunity to process grief caused by loss. This program creates a safe environment in which to look at old beliefs about grief and receive new tools to complete unresolved emotions that may still be causing pain. This group will be facilitated by a trained Grief Recovery Specialist. Pre-registration is required. The next session of the AARP Smart Driver class will be Tuesday and Wednesday February 4th and 5th at the Longview Senior Center, 11-11 Commerce from 11 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. It includes a refresher course on driving skills, changes in traffic laws and more. This is classroom only. You’ll receive a certificate at the end of the course that qualifies drivers over age 55 for a discount on their auto insurance. Cost is $20. AARP members only $15.
